Remember your first day of school? Did you walk into Villa Maria Academy and marvel at the rose window? Did you mind your step as construction boomed in the 1950s and we added more to our original building?
Or, did you, like so many, walk into Mary Clarke’s classroom and immediately feel at ease? Did you wear the maroon plaid uniform or the newer blue one? And without the little beanies!
Can you see your First Communion class all in white? Can you remember the big habits the Sisters used to wear and wonder what they really had in those large pockets? Can you recall being shocked when the good IHM Sisters changed their habits and no longer wore the veil? They have hair!
Can you still sing the Preposition Song at parties thanks to Mr. Warren Swiztler? Can you name your clouds because Mrs. Barrick took her classes outside for science? Can you recite the Ten Commandments because Ms. Milligan sang them in class? I know we can all do our mile run and sit ups because Jane Briggs got us all into shape as youngsters.
How many prizes did you win at all the Bazaars you attended?
Many of us spent nine years here at St. James. Entering as shy little 5 and 6 year olds and leaving as young men and women. There's a lot of history here - more than a century. You are part of it!
