Library

Through weekly library classes for sixth grade students, the St. James library curriculum continues the refinement of skills learned in lower grades. Library classes foster encouragement a love of literature and reading by teaching print and media awareness and literature exposure and appreciation. The middle school curriculum focuses on the organization of materials in a library, access of information in print references sources and on the web, evaluation of information, and the ethical use of information.  After each weekly lesson, students have time to select and borrow books from the library’s collection of over 16,000 different titles for their reading pleasure and to support projects they have been assigned in other classes. While seventh and eighth graders do not have regularly scheduled library classes, they are always welcome to visit with their classes, during free time, or after school to take advantage of the resources available for their research and reading needs.
