School Messenger will be Integrated with PowerSchool Starting December 4

School Messenger will be Integrated with PowerSchool Starting December 4

Dear Parents,

Most of you are familiar with School Messenger, our broadcast notification tool and PowerSchool, our student information system. The Diocese has recently announced that these tools have been integrated. Starting December 4, 2020 broadcast notifications (such as closings for inclement weather) will be sent directly from PowerSchool.

In order to be sure that everyone receives our School Messenger broadcasts we need your help to ensure that your student’s contacts are up to date in PowerSchool. Starting Friday November 20 you will have access to a form in the parent portal where you can go to update the “tags” on your contacts to indicate that they should receive broadcast messages.

For parents with students in grades PreK-4, a letter will come home on Friday with instructions on setting up your parent portal account. The portal will only be open to parents in PreK-4 from November 20 until December 4. Parents in 5-8 should already have an account. Please email if you need assistance with this.

Please “Tag” your Student’s Contacts in PowerSchool

All families now have access to a “Form” in the parent portal where you must go to update your contacts in PowerSchool. Starting December 4 broadcasts from School Messenger will be sent directly from PowerSchool. ( Please see the email that was sent yesterday for more information on this.)

Between now and December 4 you should login to the parent portal and “tag” your contacts so that they will receive messages broadcast from School Messenger. Only contacts tagged as “Lives With” “Custody” and “Emergency Contact” will be able to receive School Messenger broadcasts. This is important for anyone who is listed to pick up or drop off your child at school such as a grandparent; nanny; neighbor.

It will also be helpful if you would add the tag “Receives Mail” to any contact who should be on future email lists. We do not use PowerSchool to build email lists at this time, but if contacts were updated with these tags then we may be able to in the future.

The parent portal will be open to parents in PreK-4 beginning today and ending on December 4. After December 4 the portal will go back to being accessible for students in Grades 5 – 8 only. No grades will be visible in the Parent Portal while teachers work on grades between now and December 9.
