Week 1: 9/1/17

September 2, 2017

Dear Parents,

Congratulations on you and your child surviving their first week of Kindergarten.  I apologize for this note not going out on Friday.  My son and I both had medical emergencies so the past few days were crazier than usual.  We are both doing fine now.

First Full Week

This week will be an exciting, yet tiring, week for your child.  The Kindergartners will now be at school for a full day, ending at 3:15 pm.  This week they will have lunch in the dining room each day, followed by recess and a nap.  Please do not forget to send in their resting towel.  It should be a towel just big enough for them to lie on.  No large beach sized towels please.

Back to School Night

This Tuesday 9/5 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm is Back to School night.  The night begins in Heller Hall and ends in our classroom.  Please try to have at least one parent or guardian attend.

Picture Day

Thursday, 9/7.  Wear school uniform.  Please send back the order form any time this week.

Volunteer Schedule

Attached is a pdf for the month of September listing the Library and Lunch / Recess Volunteers.  I am hoping that a classroom parent will take on the scheduling of this duty in the future.  If you cannot volunteer for your assigned shift, please let me know.

Snack vs. Lunch

Beginning this week, your child will need to bring both a snack and a lunch to school.  PLEASE clearly label what is for snack and what is for lunch.  Our snack is at 10:00 am followed by lunch at 12:10.  Often the children do not know which is which and start eating the wrong item or eating too much.

Peanut Free vs. Peanut Aware

Remember our classroom is PEANUT FREE.  We have multiple children with contact allergies.  This means if they even touch a surface that came in contact with nuts, they could have a reaction.  Please do not send any snack that contains nuts or was made in a facility with nuts.  Our dining room is PEANUT AWARE.  This means you can send a lunch item with peanuts.  Children with allergies sit at a peanut free designated table.

Bathroom

Please have your child practice using the bathroom at home while wearing their uniform.  Girls need to be aware that they do not need to take off their jumpers but just lift their skirts.  Boys need to practice either pulling their pants up and down and/or buttoning them back up.  Remember, there is always an adult in the hallway if the child is having difficulty.

Checks and Paperwork

Anytime you send paperwork and/or checks to school, please place them in a clearly labeled envelope, with your child's name and grade on it.  If you do not have an envelope, staple your check to the paper.

Contacting Me

Email is best way to reach me; however, I am not guaranteed to check my email during the day and most likely not until lunch time.  If there is an urgent matter, please call the front office and they will notify the classroom.  Before and after school, you are welcome to call my classroom directly and leave a voicemail.  The phone does ring directly in my classroom while I am teaching, so please do not call the classroom during the school day unless we have scheduled a phone conference.

Saint James Website

Please become familiar with the Saint James website.  My personal teacher site should be up by the end of the week.  https://www.saintjamesschool.org/.
