Dear Parents,
Week 2 is done! What improvements have been made in four short days.
Dress Down Fundraiser Monday, 9/11
A fundraiser will be held on Monday to raise money for Hurricane Harvey victims in Texas. Send a $1 with your child in an envelope with their name and they can dress down in something red, white and/or blue.
If Your Child is Absent
Please contact ME. An email is perfect. You may also contact the front office if you wish. This is optional. I submit attendance every day and I like to be in the know if someone is out.
Leaving Early or Arriving Late
Anytime your child leaves early or arrives late, you need to check them in/out at the front office. There are certain times of the day that are better to come and go, due to our schedule. Ask me if you have any questions.
Volunteer Schedule
Mrs. Corley, Clare's Mom, is setting up a page on Volunteerspot where you can sign up to volunteer for either Lunch / Recess and Library.
How to reach me
The SJS website and online phone directory currently has the incorrect phone number. I can be reached at:
703-533-1182 x 161
Class Photo
Fyi, a class photo is taken in the Spring. The order form will go home then. It was not taken yesterday.
What We Have Done
Most of our time has been focused on school rules, routines and procedures. It has been said that it can take a few months for children of this age to catch on to the variety of expectations in a routine. We have read many stories; practiced writing our names; discussed the location words of above and below; and most importantly talked about how to be a good friend. There have also been a few songs they have learned. Ask them if they can sing "The Days of the Week" and see if you recognize the tune.
Checks and Paperwork
REMINDER to send in your paperwork. Anytime you send paperwork and/or checks to school, please place them in a clearly labeled envelope, with your child's name and grade on it. If you do not have an envelope, staple your check to the paper.
Naps
Please remind your child that nap time is a time for quiet rest. This includes their voice but also their bodies. I highly encourage them to keep their eyes closed so they are not distracted by others. Many children want to look around the room but then they often catch a friend's gaze and then trouble starts brewing. They need to learn to be able to quiet their minds and bodies.
Saint James Website
Please become familiar with the Saint James website. My personal teacher site should be up by the end of the week. https://www.saintjamesschool.org/.
