WEEKLY NEWS

Monday - May 15th.  This week we are preparing for Colonial Day which is this Friday.  Students learned about Colonial Money and continued working on their Help Wanted Ad which should be finished by Wed.  On Thursday, we have May Crowing in church at 1:30 p.m.   All are welcomed.  Progress reports will go home this Wednesday.  

Thursday, May 11th - Today we had Language Arts Scantron Testing and worked on a class project.  There will be a Reading and Speling Test tomorrow.  Please send in $15.00 for Colonial Day Tariff by tomorrow.  Thank you to all the parents who have already sent in their fee.  I would like to send a big thank you out to Mr. Seroski, Mrs. Alavan, and Mrs. Soruco-Franco for joining us on our field trip.  

Monday, May 8th - Tomorrow is our Gunston Hall Field Trip.  We will depart by 9:00 a.m. and return by 1:30 p.m. Students should wear their Spring School uniform with sneakers and sweaters in case it is chilly.  Each students needs a brown bag lunch along with a disposable water bottle.  We will eat a picnic lunch outside at Gunston Hall.  Please spray students with bug spray prior to coming to school and check them when they return home for ticks.  PLEASE SEND $15.00 COLONIAL DAY TARIFF FEE BY FRIDAY, MAY 12TH. Don't forget that Friday, is an early release day at 11:30 a.m.  We will be Scantron testing in Language Arts on Thursday moring so please do not schedule any doctors appts.  Make sure students eat a healthy breakfast and goes to bed early.  Thank you.

Tuesday, May 2nd - Please read email that was sent today.

Monday, May 1st - Please return your report card envelopes signed and keep the report card.  We restarted reading "Lion, Witch and Wardrobe" this week and reviewed for our Scantron Testing which will begin next week.  Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, May 9th as our Gunston Hall Field Trip.  Scantron Testing will be in the morning on Monday, April 8th, Thursday, April 11th and Thursday, April 18th.  Please do not schedule any doctors appt's during those times.  I will be out of school on Thursday and Friday of this week as my son is graduating from JMU and commissioning in the Army.  Today students began learning about reading food labels.  Upcoming Tests: Friday, Social Studies Chapter 10, Math Chapter 10 and Religion Chapter 18.  

Wednesday, April 26th - Today we continued our Science lesson on digestion.  Yesterday students learned about chemical and mechanical digestion by conducting an experiement with chalk and vinegar and watched how the chalk was broken down by the vinegar.  Tomorrow we have a Unit 3 Grammar Lesson 21-23 Test.  Please help the children study.  In Religion today, we continued our discussion on the 7th and 10 Commandments and tied in our need to project our earth and care for the resources.  We concluded our lesson by learning about food waste.  In Social Studies, we began learning about the causes of the Civil War and in Reading we started reading a biography about Jim Thorpe.

Tuesday, April 25th. Tomorrow there is a Vocab Unit 9 test and Math Chapter 10 Lesson 6-8 quiz.  Please bring in animal book for power point presentation.  Please study.  

Monday, April 24th.

Welcome back.  I head great stories from all the wonderful Easter vacation experiences.  Please turn in field trip order forms.  This Friday, our Junior Achievement program will begin and we are lucky to have Mr. Flannagan and Ms. Alavano voluteering to teach the students.  Upcoming Tests and Projects - Student will need to complete their biographies by tomrrow.  We have been working on this for some time now.  We will have a Grammar Unit 3 - Lesson 21-23 quiz on Wednesday and a Chapter 10 Lesson 6-8 quiz in Math.  On Friday, we will have a Reading, Religion, and Spelling test.  

Monday, April 10th

Thank you for all the birthday wishes.  You made my day with the flowers and the balloons that Mrs. Arzadon dropped offf.  Thank you so much parents and students.  Today we had confessions and began our Social Studies in class plays.  Students worked on Reading Comprehension Skills in Mobymax and we learned about Irregular Verbs and discuss the 6th and 9th commandments.  Upcoming tests: Tuesday - Chapter 10 Math - Lesson 1-4 quiz.  Chapter 16 Religion test.  Thursday, Unit 9 Vocab test.  On Wednesday, we will have a Resurrection Easter Egg Hunt that will recount Jesus Road to Calgary.  This Thursday is an early release day at 11:30 a.m,  We will have the Living Stations of the Cross from 10:00-11:00 a.m. 

Wednesday, April 5th

Please review the email that I sent home this evening regarding the web site and religion web site.  Also, Gunston Hall permission slips were sent home today.  Please sign and return the slip with $17.00 in cash in a sealed envelope.  Ecosystem Planning Sheets are due on Friday.  Tomorrow we will have our Social Studies Chapter 9 test and the Grammer Lesson 28-30 quiz.  Please study. 

Tuesday, April 4th

Please send in soup cans for our food drive.  Tomorrow there is a Math Chapter 9 test and a Grammar Unit 4 Lesson 24-27 test.  Students should bring your animal book tomorrow.  We have stations of the cross on Friday at 1:30 - 2:00 p.m.  Please join us. 

Week of Apri 3

Please send in soup cans for our Lenten Soup Drive for the homeelss.  Upcoming tests: Tuesday, Religion Chapter 15.  Wednesday, Chapter 9 Math Test and Grammar Unit 4 Lesson 24-27.  Friday, Reading and Spelling tests.  Please let me know if your child will be absent any days next week. Today, students filled out their Colonial Day activity sheets.  

Wed, March 29th - Student received their Organism Project Planning sheets today.  Please see document for additional information.  Please make sure that each child has their book by Thursday. We have library tomorow so students can check out books if available.  We have a classroom goal of 85% on multiplication and division time test in order to win an icre cream party.  Please get flash cards and have students practic each night until they have mastered their facts.  We will have a time test each Wednesday.  We had a beautiful celebration for Mrs. Haine's 50th anniversary of being a crossing guard.  The students made beautiful cards.  

 

Monday - March 27th Please send in any yearbook order forms by March 31st.  Tomorrow there is Mass.  On Wednesday, we will be honoring Mrs. Haines for her 50 years of service. This Thursday, spring uniforms can be worn. 

March 22nd.

Tomorrow we will have our Spelling test and Religion Tests.  Please study.  Join us tomorrow night for Science night from 6-8 p.m.  Food will be served at 5:00 p.m.

March 21

Join us Thursday eveing at 5:00 p.m. for Family Science Night.  8th grade will be selling food at 5:00 p.m.  We had mass today. If your child would like to order a year book, please send in $20.00 by March 31st.  Students had a great lab today where they created a land, ocean, and lake and then experiemented with adding pollution (food coloring) and observing the changes.  We also began talking about the Articles of Conderation and Bills of Rights in Social Studies.  In Math, students worked with multiples and least common multiples.  We worked on drafting our biography essay and they were instructed how to revise and edit their essays. TOMORROW IS BAND.  DO NOT FORGET YOUR INSTRUMENT. 

March 20th

Laura Handley came to speak to the students today about her hiking experience throughout the North American Mountain peaks.  Please remember to send in $20.00 for Yearbook by March 31st.  Upcoming Tests and Projects - Science Quiz over Lab 1-3 on Thursday, March 23.

Thurs. 3/16 - 4th grade will have Stations of Cross tomorrow at 1:30 - 2:00 p.m. Tomorrow we will have our Spelling and Reading - "The Lost City" Reading test.  Students should review compare and contrast and understand the vocabulary for the story.  Our St. Patrick's Day party will be at 2:30 - 3:00 p.m.  Thank you for sending in treats and prizes.  There is a $1.00 green dress down day.  If you would like to order a yearbook, please send in $20.00 cash or check written to St. James Catholic School.  

Wed. - 3/15 - Welcome back from a snow day.  Please remember that on Friday we will have a St. Patrick's Day party at 2:30 p.m.  A sign up genius has been sent out.  Thank you for helping to make our green day fun and festive for the kids.  Tomorrow there will be a Unit 8 Vocabulary test.
